I'm excited to announce, and dig in to Volume 1, Issue 1 of The Journal of Media Literacy Education! JMLE is an online interdisciplinary journal that supports the development of research, scholarship and the pedagogy of media literacy education. The journal provides a forum for established and emerging scholars, media professionals and educational practitioners in and out of schools.
The issue was launched on August 2nd at the 2009 conference for the National Association of Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) during their Leading the Field dinner and workshop. Co-Editors Renee Hobbs and Amy Petersen Jensen split up the attendees (by zodiac sign) and had us discuss what this open access online journal should address in future issues. It was a great opportunity for me to hear, first hand, where leading pioneers, researchers, educators, activists, and practitioners in the field of media literacy education feel that we are, and where we need to go. You can view the highlights from our workshop below in the youtube video captured by Hobbs with her flip video camera which allows her to creep in on conversations, participate, and get some nice close-ups (look for a cameo by your humble narrator).
I look forward to my continued service to JMLE on the editorial board, helping to gather and spread the voices of this impressive group. Get your free PDFs at JMLE.org!
