The PS 124 Online Learning Community provides a safe online platform for students to publish all of their digital work and connect with global audiences.
The Media Spot builds media literacy in a variety of learning environments. We are a group of educators, media professionals, and scholars who bring student-centered digital media production to classrooms, afterschool programs, and other educational settings, and provide resources for students and educators to tap into the larger media literacy movement.
We custom-design productions that integrate digital video and Internet-based resources into existing curricula. Then we collaborate in every step of the process with teachers, their students, and other media producers to complete productions using these media.
tms services include
- Short and Long-term custom media education and technology planning for K-12 schools, afterschool programs, and camps
- Planning and administration of collaborative production units with educators and students
- Activation and development of custom websites, Internet forums, blogs and other social networking tools and related professional development
- Professional Development workshops for educators on classroom use of digital technologies and new media
- Technology assessment and long-term planning
from planning to production to distribution
Our collaborative production process allows participants to understand what it means to be a producer of media, helps them think critically about the relationships between producers and their audiences in our media-rich society, strengthens traditional literacy, and empowers individuals with the skills and confidence to discover their voice in the dominant media of the 21st Century.
TMS helps many of the schools and non-profits we work with to create and maintain customized online learning networks as a platform for publishing their work, enhancing communication within their community, and archiving and sharing educational resources. We also offer curricular assessment, professional development workshops, technical consultation, and other services vital to integrating technology and media literacy in any learning environment.
