The Media Spot

Earlier this month I partook in The Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change as visiting faculty. I arrived during the student's second of three weeks creating media literacy education lesson modules - "by students for students" - that are offered to higher education programs around the world through the Academy's website. I joined the "Prosumer Group", made up of students representing 11 countries and 4 continents lead by program director Paul Mihailidis, to help them develop videos aimed at introducing some of the key questions explored within their module on social media.

Kindergartners at PS 130 are using technology in the classroom to build skills to operate computer-based resources according to the National Ed-Tech Standards (NETS).  In the process they are building the fundamentals of media literacy -- picking up related vocabulary, and getting a handle on the basics of what it means to communicate and play on the Internet. 

The following video (embedded from PS130brooklyn.com) includes tutorials recorded by 4 K classes to help themselves remember, and other students and teachers out there know what they're learning.
