Storyboarding will make the production process much more efficient once you introduce cameras, computers, etc. Before people are moving, cameras are rolling, or editing software is in the picture, storyboards allow for critical thinking about how different media communicate, teachers, to assess that students are effectively combining media that is on message, and students to determine what combinations of media will best reach their intended audiences.
