The Media Spot’s Rhys Daunic published an article reflecting on 10 years in the field of media literacy education in Volume 3 Issue 1 of the Journal of Media Literacy Education (JMLE).
Rhys was recently asked by the Journal of Media Literacy Education to submit, along with 9 other scholars and practitioners, an essay reflecting on the past 10 years in the field. My essay, 10 years of Media Literacy Education in K-12 Schools, remarks at how the foundational mission and definition of media literacy education in the K-12 arena is as spot-on as it was a decade ago, and easier to recognize due to the rapid adoption of new media like Facebook and Smart Phones over that period. I describe how I have seen schools changing to adapt to our changing culture, and what I see as the challenges for schools over the next 10 years to prepare students as lifelong learners and participants in our new digital landscape.
